Obituary

Jo Ella (Kitchens) Tryon was born at home on January 26, 1937, to Adair Jessie and Lois Alma (Lady) Kitchens in Weatherford, OK. On April 21, 2021, in Weatherford, Jo passed away peacefully where a band of angels came and carried her home, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 25 days.

Jo graduated from Weatherford High School in 1955 where she was considered an excellent student. She then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a short while before moving to Guymon, OK. There, she attended and graduated from Beauty College. Jo worked in her sister Dee's salon. Here she met the love of her life. Allison Charles Tryon and Jo Ella Kitchens married on December 29, 1961, in Santa Fe, New Mexico where they made their home. In 1968, they moved to Parsons, KS. Jo worked as a beautician in Parsons for 22 years. She loved her job and her "little old ladies". After Allison passed away in 1990, Jo moved home to Weatherford to be with her mother and family. Jo was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the First Born on May 6, 1979, in Clinton, OK. Jo was an avid reader of the bible. She loved to study God's word and talk about it. She has numerous bibles worn from use. You could go to her home at any given time and see her bible out as if she had just been reading it. Jo loved her church and church family. It is apparent by many that God blessed her with the gift of helps. Going to help the sick or discouraged, writing cards and letters, or telephoning just to see how you were was not uncommon. She cleaned the church regularly until she was no longer able. She was a great cook and she loved to cook for company. She said her signature pies were Lemon, Chocolate, and Coconut Cream. There was a time when Sunday dinners at her home after church were commonplace. If you dropped by the other 6 days of the week, she would try to feed you then, too. Her hospitality seemed boundless. In her later years she enjoyed eating out. She was always up for some good Mexican, Chinese, burger, pie, fried chicken….she loved to eat. Jo was generous. Usually, when she went to eat with someone, she insisted on paying for it, even if she didn't really have it to spend. She would tell her sister, "God will provide". She loved staying on the go. One of her favorite places to visit was Branson, Missouri and any other place her family went: Mississippi, Tennessee, Niagara Falls, and Oregon. She loved to travel. She loved spending time with friends and family. Jo didn't just have a huge heart for human-kind, it also extended to animal-kind. She always had stray cats or dogs coming to her house because they knew they would get a meal. Jo also loved birds and kept lots of bird food and a large bird bath in her back yard so she could watch them out her patio doors. She had songs in her heart. She would hum around the house, start songs in
church, and sing with anyone willing. Jo loved to sing. She had a voice of an angel.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Adair Kitchens; her husband, Allison Tryon; her five brothers: Richard Kitchens, Carrol Kitchens, Jessie Kitchens, Dale Kitchens and Darrell Kitchens; three sisters: Christina Thompson, Delores Hudnell, Brenda Sewell. Jo is survived by one sister, Pam Hartzell and husband Everett of Weatherford, OK. One special sister-in-law, Janette Willsie of Spivey, KS. Though God didn't see fit to bless Jo with children, she had special nieces and nephews that she loved like her own. She was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and child of God.

Memorials may be made to Church of the First Born in Weatherford or Jo's favorite foundations, Wounded Warrior Project and St. Jude's Hospital.
