Funeral services for Jimmie Kurtis Walls, 76, Weatherford, OK resident, will be held on August 26, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Weatherford with Earl Stephenson officiating under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends for the viewing from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Lockstone Funeral Home.
Jimmie was born November 2, 1938 to Fred and Addie Lou (Worley) Walls in Sentinel, Oklahoma and he passed from this life on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, following an extended illness. He was a graduate of Sentinel High School in 1957. Jimmie met Bertie Reinschmidt, the woman he would one day call his wife, when he was 13 years old and she was 12. Through their high school years the couple had sporadic contact until they were both students at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK and he asked her to be his wife. They were married November 25, 1959 at Odessa Baptist Church in Gotebo, Oklahoma and were blessed with 55 years together. The couple made their home in Sentinel, OK before relocating to Altus, OK. In 1963 Jimmie was promoted to the position of Meat Department Manager of the Walters, OK United Supermarket. He was promoted again in 1974 and transferred to the United Supermarket in Weatherford, OK where he remained Meat Department Manager for the next 30 years until his retirement in 2004. Upon moving to Weatherford, Jimmie also took up farming and raising registered Angus cattle. What started as a small farming hobby, turned into a much larger operation after his retirement. He was never as happy as when he was working with his cattle or learning something new in the farming and ranching world. He served on the board of the former Hydro Co-Op and was also a member of the American Angus Association.
Jimmie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bertie, of their home in Weatherford, OK; two daughters: Kelley Young and Kim Maguire, both of Weatherford, OK; one brother, Wayne Walls and his wife, Doris of Houston, TX; one sister, Patricia Andrews of Snyder, OK; six grandchildren: Jamie Maguire, Jarod Young, Lindsey Watters and her husband Cory, Jessica Young, Sarah Maguire, and Seth Maguire; one great-grandson, Stetson Watters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Addie Lou Walls; one cousin, Billy Ensey; one nephew, Danny Reinschmidt; and two nieces, Debbie Wemmer and Janie Sullivan.
Jimmie was a lover of all animals and would take in and feed any stray. In honor of Jimmie, donations can be made to: Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary, PO Box 1965 Weatherford, OK 73096.
