Jeri Lyn Burch Cocannouer, 59, of Weatherford, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at her home. Jeri was born on March 30, 1956, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to her parents Dean and Nelda Patten Burch. Jeri graduated with honors from Elk City High School in 1974. She was a member of the 1973 state championship basketball team, delegate of Girls State, football queen, Miss Elk City in 1975, Miss Clinton in 1977, Girl of the Year at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1977, and was a talent winner in the Miss Oklahoma pageant in 1977. She continued her education at SWOSU, receiving her Bachelors of Science in Accounting in 1978, Masters of Education in 1984, and Elementary Certification in 1990. During her college years, she met and married Dan Cocannouer, and became a loyal football coachs wife for 36 years. Jeri continually kept current in the education field by attending workshops including one in March of this year. Jeri taught elementary, secondary, and collegiate level classes, and received teacher of the year honors. She was principal at Wellston Public Schools, assistant principal at Sunset Elementary in Edmond, and was Director of Special Education, Testing, and Federal Programs at Weatherford Public Schools until her retirement on July 31st of this year.
Jeris joys in life came from being a mom, an avid sports fan, working with pageants, and being CoCo to her great-nieces and nephews. She was a member at Crossings Community Church.
Jeri is survived by her husband Dan, of Weatherford, Oklahoma, two daughters and son-in-laws, Janie Lyn and Cory Pence of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Josie Lyn and Colton Blackburn of Edmond, Oklahoma, two sisters and brother-in-laws, Jimi Lou and Robert OHara of Elk City, Oklahoma, Patti Sue and J.R. Dies of Buffalo, Oklahoma, her mother Nelda Patten Burch of Elk City, Oklahoma, two nephews Brad OHara and Josh Dies, two nieces Traci OHara Morgan and Carissa Dies Vorndran, and their families, along with numerous other loving family members.
She is preceded in death by her father Dean Burch, grandparents Millard and Josie Patten, Aunt Jeri Patten, and her in-laws Guy and Virginia Cocannouer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jeri Cocannouer Memorial Football Fund, c/o SWOSU Foundation Inc. at 100 Campus Drive, Weatherford, Oklahoma, 73096; Telephone 580-774-3267.
Services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma, followed by interment at Elk City Fairlawn Cemetery, both officiated by Pastor Marty Grubbs, of Crossings Community Church.
Services are conducted by Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
