Funeral services for Jean Ann Hamm, 85 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016, 10:00 A.M. at the Church of Christ with Jeffrey Hamm and Ritchie Hamm officiating. A private family burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Jean was born January 25, 1930 to Bert and Elsie (Crowell) Ewing in Lafayette, Indiana. In 1948, Jean enrolled at Purdue University where she met Donald Ivan Hamm in the Chemistry lab where Donald was a graduate teaching assistant. They married August 19, 1950. They moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma in the summer of 1951 with Donald getting a job at Southwestern State College in the Chemistry department. The Hamm family lived in East Lansing, Michigan in 1969-70. They returned to Weatherford in 1970.

Jean served as Chairman of the Post-Adjudication Review Board for Custer, Beckham, Roger Mills, Ellis, Greer, and Harmon Counties, responsible for the review care of all children under DHS supervision. She did volunteer work at Southwestern Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Sorosis, P.E.O., Western Oklahoma Quilters Guild, and a Friday morning quilting group. She was a precinct worker and inspector for many years. Raising five children wasnt enough so Donald and Jean also cared for nine foster children. Jean was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and volunteered at the Agape Clinic. Memorials may be made to Weatherford Church of Christ Student Center, Southwestern University Foundations, or to the Donald I. Hamm Scholarship.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, love, and best friend Donald, parents Bert & Elsie Ewing, two brothers, Donald Ewing and Jack Ewing, grandsons Derrick Hamm and Clark Perkins, and great-granddaughter Jentry Perkins and brother-in-law Mike Riley.

Jean is survived by three sons, Jeffrey and Gail Hamm of Benton, AR, David and Myra Hamm of Terral, OK, Ritchie and Kelley Hamm of Longview, TX; two daughters, Cheryl and Gary Leonard of Weatherford, OK, and Dena and John Perkins of Edmond, OK. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Greta Riley of Texas and Fay Johnson of CA and many nieces and nephews. We would be remiss if we did not mention moms quilting sisters.
