Obituary

J.C. Edwards was born on July 23, 1934, in Albert, Oklahoma, to Powell C. Edwards and Eva Lavetta (Burk) Edwards and passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Oklahoma City.

J.C. grew up in Oney, Oklahoma, where he graduated high school with the class of 1952. After graduation, he attended Cameron University and the University of Oklahoma. While he was working in Greensburg, Kansas, he met Lorene Thompson while she was working at a movie theatre. They were married on January 2, 1959, and made their home in Greensburg for a short time. As a young family, they moved often, following J.C.'s work in powerline construction. They finally settled in Weatherford in 1974, where they made their home and raised their three sons, Jim, Greg, and Brad. It was there that J.C. began his custom harvesting career, a passion he continued to enjoy until the age of 89.

In his spare time, he enjoyed repairing his machinery, watching all sports and was an avid OU fan.  J.C.'s greatest joys were his grandchildren's sporting events and cherishing his moments with his family. He also found pleasure in solving puzzles, watching NASCAR, and being involved in harvest. As a family, we will always remember him for his quick intellect, remarkable knack for retaining information, exceptional math skills and never without his Dr. Pepper.

J.C. is survived by his three sons; Jim Edwards and wife, Brenda of Weatherford, Greg Edwards and wife, Bonnie of Canton, and Brad Edwards and wife, Jamie of Shawnee; grandchildren, Syreeta Rodriquez of Weatherford, Jayson Edwards of Weatherford, Jeff Edwards and wife, Emily of Hydro, Nikki Hatch and wife, DeAnn of Stillwater, Seth Edwards and wife, Ashley of Canton, Josh Edwards of Canton, Lizzie Edwards of Canton, Paisly, Emily, Lynlee and Everlee Edwards of Shawnee; great-grandchildren, Jayse Edwards and wife, Jenna of Vega, TX, Braylon Gayer of Weatherford, Jaylee Edwards of Thomas, Kamdyn Edwards of Weatherford, Lincoln and Landry Edwards of Hydro and Alex Hatch of Stillwater; brother, Gary Edwards and wife, Linda of Fort Cobb; sister in law, Arzella Ferguson of Kansas City, two brothers in law, Leslie Thompson of Idaho and Bobby Thomspon of Cordell; sister in law, Dot Thompson; nieces, Misty Garling, Carol Yeamons and Lorrie Bare; and nephew, Lee Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorene and his parents.
