Jaquelyn M
"Jackie" Steele
July 8, 2014
Funeral services for Jaquelyn M. Jackie Steele, 84 year-old Hydro, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014, 10:00 A.M. at Hydro Masonic Chapel with Brandon Blacksten officiating under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Jackie was born March 14, 1930, near Weatherford, Oklahoma to Jim and Della (Masoner) Steele and passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, Oklahoma. Jackie attended the Hydro Public Schools. After the death of her father, Jim Steele, her mother, Della Steele later married John Lubinus in 1942. The family made their home north of Hydro on the Lubinus family farm.
Jackies hobbies growing up were horseback riding, sewing, sketching dress and clothing designs with a designing talent far advanced for her age and that era. In May of 1948, she graduated as Salutatorian of her Senior Class. After graduation, she enrolled in Hills Business College in Oklahoma City. In 1949, while attending business school, The Rainbow Travel Service Magazine in Oklahoma City chose her as one of its Cover Girls of the Week.
Later, around March of 1950, she was involved in a tragic car accident that changed her life completely. She suffered severe head trauma, that resulted in a month long coma. When she was released from the hospital she had to return home due to the many physical limitations resulting from her injuries where she lived until entering the nursing home.
After the death of her mother, Della in 1997, and step-father, John, in 2000, she remained in her home on the farm being content with her various hobbies long with the peace and quiet. In 2010, it became apparent that she needed fulltime professional health care and was admitted to the Maple Lawn Manor.
Jackie is survived by her cousins, their families, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
