Obituary

Janis Lovell was born on February 9, 1935 in Thomas, Oklahoma and passed away from natural causes on Wednesday, January 13 th , 2021 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 4 days.

Janis was raised on a farm north of Weatherford and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1953.  She married the love of her life, James Frederick Lovell, in 1954, and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in the field of Home Economics in 1956.  She received her Master's Degree in 1964 from Kansas State University.  She and James moved to Weatherford where she taught Home Economics at SWOSU. Later, she received a Doctorate from Texas Tech University.

Janis was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford.  She was active in her community and the Weatherford PEO chapter.  She and Jim were instrumental in the dream and building of the Heartland of America Museum in Weatherford.  She was a dedicated wife and mother, raising four children while working, and helping maintain the family farm just one mile north of town.  Nothing mattered more to her than her family.  She was always classy, intelligent, organized, and dedicated.  She was a role model and cared deeply about her community and a multitude of friends.

She is survived by her son Ralph Lovell [Debbie] of Katy, TX and their 2 children, Amy Gremillion [Charlie] and Tim Lovell [Tiffany]; Randall Lovell [Susan] of Martinsburg, WV and their 4 children, Sarah Soliman, Becky Campos [Alex], Stephen Lovell and Wes Lovell; Rhonda Lovell [Will Yearian] of Fayetteville, AR and children Celia McDonald [Mason], Carly Carbine [Kevin] and Lauren Yearian; and Diane Lovell of College Station, TX and children Josh, Elizabeth, and Macy; great-grandchildren Noah and McKenzie Lovell, Chase, Connor, and Cody Gremillion, James, Emilia, and Cohen Carbine, Edith McDonald, and Raychelle Peters; sister-in-law Jewrell Crall and her nephews Ed [Debbie] and Les [Laurie] Crall; and sister-in-law Opal Crall.

Janis is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Lovell, her parents, Ralph and Lura Crall, and her brother, Lamar Crall.

Viewing is currently at Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford, OK and will continue through Monday at 11am.  Masks are encouraged.  A formal celebration of her life will be held at a later date due to COVID concerns.  A small private graveside service will take place on Monday, January 18 th at 2pm at the Oak View Cemetery in Lovell, OK, where she will be buried next to Jim.

The family wishes to thank the Corn Heritage Village nursing home in Corn and Weatherford and Vicki Roof for their outstanding care of Janis.
