Obituary

Janelle Pennington was born Margaret Catherine Janelle Holland on January 20, 1934, in Erick, Oklahoma to Charlie and Maude (Wilson) Holland and passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 10 days.

Born the nineth of ten children Janelle learned to cook, bake, sew, and work in the cotton fields to help support her family.

While attending Erick High School Janelle was a high school cheerleader and sang with a quartet that performed at many of the local events. She met Elmer Kent Pennington her junior year. After graduation the two were married July 10, 1955, making their residence in Stillwater, OK. Janelle worked in an attorney's office while Kent earned his degree at Oklahoma A&M.

The two moved to Thomas, Oklahoma. Kent taught Vocational Agriculture at Thomas High School and she worked at Butler Buildings followed by employment with First National Bank of Thomas. Though the couple never had a son their hearts were filled with "Daddy's ag boys" and a sweet girl they cared for and watched grow, Patti Jo Boileau Humphreys.

They were blessed with the adoption of Lorna Jo and four years later completed their family when adopting Kendra Beth.

As their daughters grew the couple supported and encouraged the students of Thomas at various events. Janelle's dishes were sought after at the potlucks and at the First Baptist Church of Thomas and her peach ice cream was legendary in Western Oklahoma.

After years working at First National Bank, she quit (she was far too young to retire) to support Kent by preparing delicious meals and shopping for themselves and their grandson Adam. She was often seen driving around town in her red Jeep and socializing with the Coffee Cup Club.

In 1998 Janelle suffered her greatest loss, the death of beloved Kent. Though she mourned, her desire to help and support others was not shaken. She was an active on the PARB Board and served as a CASA volunteer. Often seen cruising the streets of Thomas, Clinton, and Weatherford in that red Jeep.

With the high school graduation of her grandson, Adam, and his enlistment in the US Navy. Janelle became restless and when long weekend visits from granddaughters, Chase and Sydney, and grandson Adin were not enough she moved to Cypress, Texas to be near and support their growing list of activities.

Attending orchestra performances, football games and weekends at softball and baseball games were joys she did not take for granted. Kids quickly learned "Glamma", (as she became known because of her stylish dress) had jellybeans and gummies and was willing to share.

Residents at the small 55+ apartment complex where she lived were often drawn to the smell of homemade cookies and banana bread wafting through the halls. Over these treats Janelle shared the last happenings of her grandchildren and participated in a bit of local gossip. All five of the Allison family looked forward to their Sunday lunch at Grandma's.

Janelle spent her final year making friends and sharing her love of sweets and chocolates with the staff and visitors at a care facility in Cypress, TX.

She is survived by her daughters. Lorna Jo Pennington, grandson Adam Richard Pennington, great-granddaughter Brooklynn Michelle Morris and great grandson Camdyn Kent Pennington. Kendra Beth Pennington Allison, son-in-law David Stewart Allison, granddaughters Chase Margaret Keen, husband Christian Taylor Keen, and Sydney Katherine Allison, grandson David Adin Allison. Bonus Family, Mary Ann Boileau, Patti Jo Boileau Humphreys, Lyndi Jo Humphreys Taff, husband Dusty Taff and their children Kasten Tighe, Kynli Jo, and Keagan Jack. Numerous beloved nieces and nephews will miss their favorite Aunt.

"Please consider honoring Janelle with a donation to CASA in lieu of flowers."
