Obituary

Jane Ann Weichel, known to her family and friends as Jane Ann or Janie, was born on August 27, 1952, in Okeene, Oklahoma, to George William Kubat and Geraldine "Jerry" Price Kubat. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on July 14, 2026.

Jane attended St. Mary's Catholic School through the fourth grade before transferring to Okeene Public Schools, where she graduated with the Class of 1970. She then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, majoring in elementary education with a minor in art. It was at Southwestern that she met the love of her life, Jimmy Weichel of Colony, Oklahoma. The two were united in marriage on January 5, 1974, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Okeene, Oklahoma.

Jane and Jim began their married life on the family farm and ranch south of Colony, where they made their home throughout their 52 years of marriage. Jane began her teaching career as a kindergarten and art teacher in Binger before teaching sixth grade at Washita Heights. She later stepped away from teaching to embrace one of the greatest joys of her life-being a full-time mother to Jamie and Justin.

Jane had a remarkable gift for creating beauty in whatever she touched. Whether she was teaching, sewing, gardening, decorating, or learning something new, she approached life with curiosity, imagination, and joy. She was a lifelong learner whose talents seemed endless, always ready to take on a new challenge. Over the years, Jane enjoyed working with leather. She braided leather making whips, did leather tooling and other types of leather creations. She also made custom leather clothes that were sold at Tener's Western Wear in Oklahoma City. She kept her hands busy with beadwork, embroidery, quilting, knitting, crochet, macramé and countless other forms of handwork. She found great joy in gardening, preserving the harvest through canning, and baking pies, which became her signature contribution to every family gathering.

Jane was happiest working in her home and caring for her family. In 1992, she returned to teaching at Washita Heights, where she taught fourth grade and math while also serving as the 4-H leader. She retired in 2010 when Washita Heights closed. After retirement, she cherished time with her six grandchildren and attending their many activities, yet she always had a creative project in progress.

In her later years, Jane turned her creativity toward writing. She lovingly preserved her family's history by writing a tribute biography about her mother and later authored Their Road to Christianity, documenting the founding of Colony, Oklahoma. Through her words, she ensured that the stories and history of those she loved would be remembered for generations to come.

Jane and Jim attended Columbian Memorial Presbyterian Church in Colony for 50 years. Although she was never a formal member, Jane was deeply involved in the life of the church and considered it her church home. She shared her creativity and love of community by writing and directing many Christmas Eve programs for everyone to enjoy. In the final years of her life, Jane returned to her Catholic faith and attended St. Eugene's Catholic Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Jane is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Weichel; her children, Jamie Chambers and Justin Weichel and his wife, Anna; her six grandchildren, Payden, Sawyer, Landry, and Gentry Chambers, and Jovi and Jemma Weichel; her sister, Kathy, and husband, Ronnie Sproul; Kevin Kubat and his wife, Dana; Kimmie Jones and her husband, Glenn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George William and Geraldine "Jerry" Price Kubat, and her son-in-law, Brent Chambers.

Jane's legacy lives on through the many lives she touched as a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, artist, storyteller, and friend. She will be remembered for her creativity, kindness, faith, and the love she poured into her family and community.

Funeral services for Jane will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Okeene with Father Kelly Edward officiating. Burial will directly follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Okeene. Services are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
