Jana Lou Scott passed away February 28, 2018 at The Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS after a long fought battle with cancer, at the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 21 days.
She was born on May 7, 1937, in Fay, Oklahoma to Henry C. and Carrie E. (Adams) Scott. Jana Lou loved the Lord and became a committed Christian at an early age. She loved serving in her church wherever she lived. Her church families were very special and meaningful to her. She held many offices within the church over the years. Jana Lou graduated from Fay High School in 1955. She attended SWOSU (Southwestern Oklahoma State University) in Weatherford, OK and earned a B.S. and a Master of Teaching degree before going to Oklahoma State University where she received a Doctorate in Education in 1972. Jana Lou was always a caring, loyal and dedicated educator. She taught school in Thomas and Lawton before joining the faculty at SWOSU. She taught for 33 years at Southwestern, where she served as Department Chair for 16 years in Elementary and Special Education. Jana Lou received many rewarding professional awards throughout her career including Outstanding Young Educator, Teacher of the Year and National Teacher Awards. She loved being a faculty advisor and helped countless numbers of students. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW Guild, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kappa Iota, Retired Educators and she served as President of the Heartland Museum Board before becoming ill. Jana Lou was known as a caregiver to her family, as well as to many very special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Rayburn, George, Henry Allen (Buddy), and two infant siblings. Survivors include three nieces; Sandra Preston and husband, Steve, Manhattan, KS; Tammy Miller and husband, Rick, Topeka, Kansas; and Cheryl Lasselle, Racine, Wisconsin. Great nieces and nephews include: Alex Lasselle and daughter Sophia; Laura (Preston) Cash and husband Blaine and son Benaiah; Daniel Preston and wife Ashley; Abby, Amanda and Braedan Miller; numerous cousins, many very special neighbors and loving friends, the Neonate Sunday School Class, and the Heartland of America Board and Volunteers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Churches in Weatherford or Fay, or to the Heartland of America Museum in Weatherford or one of your choosing.
