Funeral service for James Sheldon Payne, 85 year old Weatherford resident will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Weatherford with Earl Stephenson Officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Sheldon was born on August 29, 1928 to George and Ora (Quattlebaum) Payne and died on Friday March 21, 2014 at the Odyssey Hospice House in Fort Worth, Texas. He was raised and attended a rural school South of Weatherford and graduated from Colony High School in 1946. On December 31, 1948 he married the love of his life, Irene Marie Wright, North of Weatherford in her parents home. He farmed and ranched alongside his father and brother for many years. Sheldon enjoyed his church family, studying the Bible, spending time with his family, farming, and overseeing his Payne Angus Ranch. Memorials contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.

Sheldon is survived by his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Norris and Margaret Payne of Fort Worth, TX; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcella and Dr. Robert Schiermeyer of Denver, CO; two sisters and their spouses, Sharron and Wallace Glasscock, Fanny and Lawrence Logsdon; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wendell Payne. The family would like to thank Hal Stinson and Duane Payne for all their hard work maintaining the Payne Angus Ranch during his absence.
