James Millington Meade McClain was born on September 20, 1930 to Homer Meade and Sarah Lavina (Crowder) McClain near Thomas, Oklahoma and passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Weatherford Regional Hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 28 days.
James was raised on the Mick Groat farm west of Thomas until the family moved into town. He attended school in Thomas, graduating with the class of 1948. After high school he first began working on the railroad, then drove heavy equipment and started a custom harvest business. On January 6, 1961 he married Mollie Ruth (Curl) Reynolds and they made their home in Thomas. Together they operated the custom harvesting business until 1974. He worked at CASE Implement of Clinton, Oklahoma retiring at age 62. However, James continued to drive combines during harvest until 2017. He spent most of his time outside. James enjoyed harvest time, riding horses, working cattle, spoiling his dogs, gardening, telling funny stories to anyone who would listen and spending time with family.
James was converted October 22nd 1939 and was baptized June 27, 1941 at First Baptist Church, Thomas and remained a member there until his death.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 sisters Marchieta Horton and Irmalee Horton and a niece Lavina Rosemary Horton. He is survived by his stepson Paul Reynolds of Thomas; 3 nieces Linda and Robert Dillmon of Newton, Kansas, Joyce and Calvin Currell of Thomas, Sandra and Tom Basham of Anadarko; 1 nephew James Walter and Angie Horton of Fargo; and several great nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, Thomas.
