James "Jim"
Homer Horsburgh
December 17, 1942 – July 8, 2025
James Homer Horsburgh, 82, of Weatherford, Oklahoma, passed away on July 8, 2025.
Jim was born on December 17, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to James West Horsburgh and Sybil Marie Horsburgh. Following his high school graduation from Brooklyn High School in 1960, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Morse code interpreter, stationed in Crete and the Philippines.
After completing his military service, Jim returned to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked as a railroad detective. It was there he met Paula Jeanne Meckel, whom he married on September 11, 1965. The couple later relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where Jim earned both his bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in business education, while Paula worked as a surgical nurse.
In 1973, Jim and Paula moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where he accepted a position as a professor in the Business Department at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Five years later, inspired by an article he read about Edward Jones, Jim transitioned to a career in finance. He became an Investment Representative with Edward Jones, opening the firm's 200th office, and faithfully served clients in Weatherford and the surrounding communities for more than 40 years. Jim especially enjoyed discussing investments, with a particular fondness for utility stocks.
Outside of his professional life, Jim was passionate about the game of golf, was a dedicated member of the Weatherford Rotary Club, loved 50's music, and remained a loyal Cleveland Indians fan throughout his life. He was widely respected as a mentor, known for his dedication to his clients, and cherished the Weatherford community deeply, often remarking, "Aren't we lucky to live in Weatherford?"
Above all, Jim was admired for his selfless devotion to caring for his wife, Paula, over many years. The couple shared 49 years of marriage.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Paula; his sister, Donna Berrill; and his parents. He is survived by his son, James Horsburgh, daughter-in-law Abby Horsburgh, and grandchildren Carson and Nikelle Horsburgh, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; as well as his daughter, Katelin Bartmann, son-in-law Robert Bartmann, and granddaughter Maggie Bartmann, all of Weatherford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Weatherford Regional Hospital Foundation.
