Obituary

Funeral: 11:00 AM Friday, January 24th, 2014"The Chapel" of First United Methodist Church

Funeral services for James Leonard Goodin, 84 year-old Los Angeles, California resident, formerly of Weatherford, Oklahoma, will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in The Chapel at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the directions of Lockstone Funeral Home.

James was born September 20, 1929 in Leroy, Texas to Roy and Magdalene (Damm) Goodin and passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at his home in Los Angeles, California. James grew up in Weatherford and was salutatorian of his graduating class. He joined the U.S. Navy June 30, 1948 and entered electronics school in Treasure Island October 25, 1948. James was assigned to the USS Norton Sound September 1, 1949 and later attended a 6 week school at Great Lakes. Then to Tokyo to the Valley Forge Carrier September 20, 1950. James was sent to Guided Missile School in Point Mugu January 1951. He was assigned to White Sands, New Mexico to work on guided missiles. James was discharged June 27, 1953 at Orange, Texas. He then returned to Weatherford to study at Southwestern State College. James was listed in the 1954-1955 Whos Who among students in American Universities and Colleges; BS; Arts and Sciences, Physics; 1955 student paper staff co-editor; Alpha Phi Sigma Vice-President; Senate Club Vice-President; Masquers; Wesley Foundation; forensic squad; campus remote studio weekly radio program; all-college plays; Presidents Honor Roll; Deans Honor Roll; USS Navy Electronics Technician First Class. James later worked for the Raytheon Company Missile System Division and worked on the Hawk and Sparrow III missiles.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Magdalene Goodin; nephew, Terrell Harper and two infant nephews. He is survived by one sister, Margery (Goodin) Harper and husband, Odell of Weatherford, Oklahoma; niece, Pamela Harper of Tulsa Oklahoma; and three great-nephews.
