James
Edge
November 28, 1942 – January 17, 2026
James H. Edge, age 83, passed from this earthly home to his home with the Heavenly Father on January 17, 2026, at 4:59 pm. Jim was born on November 28, 1942, to Harry Frederick Edge and Alice Belva (Cochran) Edge in Kingwood, West Virginia. He grew up enjoying the sights and adventures of Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and West Virginia. Jim's dad was a EUB preacher and they moved frequently.
While attending high school Jim was involved in multiple sports. Following his senior year he immediately joined the United States Air Force. While Jim was stationed at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in OK, he met the love of his life, Joan Mounts. They were united in marriage on April 24, 1965, at Sickles Community Church.
While serving 20 years in the Air Force we lived in Alaska, Nebraska, Arkansas and North Dakota and Jim was deployed to VietNam. Jim was a canine trainer and security policeman and was granted the opportunity to get his Bachelor of Law Enforcement from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, in 1971. One of his most memorable assignments was at Minot, ND when he felt a calling to do full time Christian ministry. Therefore, after retiring from the Air Force, he enrolled at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX and got a Theology degree in 1985. Upon graduation he was endorsed by the Home Mission Board of the southern Baptist Convention to be a church planter in LaCrosse, WI, and served there for seven years. He began hospital chaplain's training while there and for his second year of training, he had a one-year internship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
He moved back to Oklahoma and became a Board Certified Chaplain at Integris Hospital, OKC, working there for about 15 years. Being an extrovert, Jim never met a stranger and was gifted with the ability to express compassion and empathy helping people to be open and honest about their concerns. Being an active member of Quail Springs Baptist Church offered him an opportunity to love and pray for members of our church Connect Group.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joan, of 60 years; their two children, Michael James Edge and wife, Tracie from Yukon, OK and Michelle Annette Edge Alexander and husband, Eric from Fletcher, NC; a sister, Alice Marie Edge Jones from Morristown, TN; his grandchildren who he loved and adored, Cheyenne Holland, Alexis Edge, Kayli Alexander, Allyce Alexander and James Alexander; and nine nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harry Frederick Edge, Jr., Robert Patrick Edge, David Edge; and sister, Nancy Pauline Edge.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Quail Springs Baptist Church Food Pantry, OKC or to a charity of your choice.
The family expresses gratitude to Jim's doctors, Including Dr. D. Foster, Dr. S. Chohan, the Integris Hospice and special friend, Robin Meyers.
