James Joseph Dorgan, Jr. was born May 5, 1934 to James Joseph Dorgan, Sr. and Norma (Delmaso) Dorgan in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at his home in Weatherford, Oklahoma. James was raised and attended school in Pittsfield, graduating with the Class of 1952 from Pittsfield High School. While still in high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served 21 years in the military. While stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, he met Genary Janet Spear on November 24, 1956 they were married in Midwest City.
During his time in the military, he was stationed in Midwest City, Vietnam, Alaska, Thailand, Guam and many other places. James served one tour during Korea and two tours in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart during his time of service. Upon retirement from military service, James and Genary made their home in Elk City, where he worked as a delivery driver for Dr. Pepper and at the Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base as crash rescue. In 1984, James retired and they moved to Weatherford, OK.
James enjoyed spending time outdoors—hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. James enjoyed cooking and gardening and would often bake homemade pizzas and using fresh vegetables from his own garden. He also enjoyed making homemade wine and root beer. He loved team bowling with his wife and watching sports, especially baseball.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years earlier this year. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Loretta Stracuzzi.
James is survived by one son, James Joseph Dorgan, III of Burns Flat, OK; three daughters, Dianne Baldwin and husband Ken of Mustang, OK, Linda Heins and husband Mark of Choctaw, OK, and Kathy King and husband Steve of Weatherford, OK; one sister, Elaine Goodrich and husband Arthur of Hancock, MA; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
