Jack C.
Mclemore
June 22, 1930 – September 9, 2018
Jack C. McLemore was born June 22, 1930, at his family home in Colony, Oklahoma to James Henry and Mary Gertrude Adams (Cross) McLemore and passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018, in Carnegie Tri-County Municipal Hospital in Carnegie, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years, 2 months, and 17 days.
Jack was raised in rural Washita County, southeast of Colony, along with his four sisters and three brothers. He attended school in Colony through the eighth grade when his farming career began in earnest.
Jack met his sweetheart, Freeda Harris, in school at Colony and on August 4, 1952, they were married in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Together they tackled the task of rearing Bob, Beverly, Tom, and Clay. He loved seeing people at school activities of his children and grandchildren.
Having lived his entire life in the rich Cobb Creek bottom, where all of his farmland was located, Jack produced cotton, alfalfa, sorghum, peanuts, and wheat, as well as raised cattle. He was selected Indian Farmer of the Year in 1973 and his farm was named a Centennial Farm in 2000.
Fond of being active in and giving back to his community, Jack enjoyed serving on a wide array of boards and committees, among numerous others. He served 40 years for Caddo Electric Coop, 35 years for Eakly Farmer's Coop, and between 15 and 30 years for Cotton Coop Foundation, Producers Coop Oil Mill, Oklahoma Cotton Coop Association, Colony and later Washita Heights School boards. He was active in fundraising for local FFA and 4-H Clubs for kids in Colony, Corn, Eakly, and Oney.
Jack was a proud member of the Caddo Indian Tribe of Oklahoma and worked to provide opportunites to Inidans in the area. He spent his whole life attending Colony Presbyterian Church where he served terms as deacon and elder, and led the singing of hymns from 1976 until 2017. He enjoyed playing the guitar for diverse audiances.
His greatest contributions were: the ones he left behind; that he bowed his head for Jesus; and that he stood up for Uncle Sam.
Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Freeda McLemore of their home in Colony, Oklahoma; three sons, Robert McLemore and wife, Aquilla, James Thomas McLemore and wife, Pam, and Clay McLemore and wife, Carla, all of Colony, Oklahoma; one daughter, Beverly Lowry and husband, Ron of Colony, Oklahoma; one brother, Bill McLemore of Houston, Texas; twelve grandchildren and spouses, Jenny and Shannon Olsen, Jed and Delena McLemore, Rebecca and David Burton, Dustin and Lindsay McLemore, Thomas and Stephanie McLemore, Jaci McLemore, Bree and Joe Patterson, Brody and Jayme Lowry, Blake Lowry, Chris Lawrence, and Jay and Kimberley Lawrence; sixteen great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jack, Lacy, Lucy, Caylor, Riggin, Brylee, Kash, Jagger, Logan, Kylee, Maddox, Phoenix, Broxton, Morgan, and Zoey; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Nona, Gladys, Bonita, and Bobby; and two brothers, Dallas and Robert.
