Funeral services for Irene Marie Payne, 88 year-old former resident of Weatherford, Oklahoma will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church of Weatherford. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Marie was born in Butler, Oklahoma on October 13, 1928, to Ollie and Rose (Vignal) Wright and passed on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Silverado Assisted Living in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended schools in Butler, Oklahoma where she graduated from Butler High School class of 1946.

Marie met her future husband Sheldon Payne at a Church Revival in Butler. Marie and Sheldon were married December 31, 1948, north of Weatherford in her parents home. Marie attended Southwestern State College for two years before joining her husband to work on the farm.

Marie worked in the First Baptist Church Nursery where she loved holding and feeding children. She enjoyed animals, gardening, sharing recipes, cooking family meals, and making pies. She was loved by the nursing home residents. Maries Faith was her foundation and she was very strong in her faith. She loved the Lord and participated in her Church activities. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church and the Alzheimers Association.

Marie survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Norris and Margaret Payne of Dallas, TX; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcella and Dr. Robert Schiermeyer of Denver, CO; seven Grandchildren and two Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
