Hoskins
February 6, 1929 – October 13, 2020
Ira Clay Hoskins was born February 6, 1929, in Fairview to Charley Clay and Lulu Ellen (Shaffer) Hoskins and passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at home in Weatherford having reached the age of 91 years, 8 months and 7 days.
Ira was raised and attended school in Seiling, graduating from the Seiling High School. He earned a Bachelor of Education degree from Southwestern State College and later earned his Master's degree in business from Oklahoma State University. Ira married his boyhood girlfriend, Dorcella Eileen Gosney on March 25, 1952, at the Orion Baptist Church. To complete their family, they adopted Tami Renee in 1962 and Terry Clay in 1965. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in 1951 to 1953.
At the age of 17, Ira became a school teacher with the Pleasant Valley School District. The school had nine students ranging in ages from 6 to 12. Ira taught the students Reading, Arithmetic, English, Geography, Health, Spelling and Home Economics. As he continued his teaching career, he taught drivers ed and bookkeeping classes in Holcomb, Kansas for ten years. Ira broke his back from a summer job and went to work for the Federal Credit Union. Later he began working for the Internal Revenue Service where he worked and retired after 35 years. During that time, he bought a ranch near Guthrie and there they made their family home. After moving to the Guthrie area the Hoskins family attended Arcadia Baptist Church. Ira served as deacon and church treasurer for many years. Church attendance and active volunteerism were top priorities for Ira. He enjoyed working with his cattle and building up the ranch. In 2013, Ira sold the ranch and moved to Weatherford.
Ira attended the First Baptist Church of Weatherford and enjoyed meeting with church members and others for coffee in the mornings when he could. His faith in God was very important to him and he exhibited that in his faithfulness.
Ira is survived by his daughter, Tami Hoskins; his son, Terry Hoskins and wife, Alysia; grandchildren, Marlee Arambula, Macie Arambula, Aubree Hoskins, and Shaylee (Hoskins) Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Harper and Braxton Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ellen Hoskins; his wife, Dorcella; and a sister, Geraldine Sauer.
