Funeral services for Howard E. Hightower, 87 year-old Hydro, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, January 12, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Believers Worship Center with Rev. Bob Brunson officiating. Burial will follow in Hydro Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Howard was born October 29, 1925 in Dill City, Oklahoma to Wilson and Faye (Cunningham) Hightower and passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Weatherford Regional Hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Howard was raised and attended school in Port and Rocky and later moved to Eakly and settled in Hydro. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Howard returned to Hydro to farm and married Freda Hart on January 19, 1948. They moved into town in 1956 and he was the Fire Chief for 22 years for the Hydro Fire Department. He was a rural mail carrier for 37 years. Howard enjoyed spending the last 24 years working his summers with his Fun Valley family in Colorado, fishing, fixing electronics and was a ham radio operator. Memorials may be made to the Hydro First Responders.
Howard is survived by one son, Howard Butch Hightower of Granbury, Texas; two daughters, Dawn Ray and Donna Hightower both of Hydro, Oklahoma; one sister, Faye Mays of Bethany, Oklahoma; and three sister-in-laws, Lucille Hightower of Houston, Texas, Mau-Wiece Hightower of Lakeland, Florida, and Ernestine Hightower of Lawton, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Brady and Amanda Benton of Elk City, Oklahoma, Jennifer and Glendon Rhoads of Hydro, Oklahoma, Cody and Whitney Hightower of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Cassidy and Chuck5 Robbins of Weatherford, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Ray, Leah Ray, Dylan Hightower, and Landry Hightower. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Raymond, Odell, and Ted; and three sisters, Marie, Rada, and Lenore.
