Helen Voilet Leonard was born August 21, 1941, in Eagle City, Oklahoma to Floyd E. and Ida A. (Humphreys) Busler. She passed away on November 25, 2025 at River Valley Skilled Nursing and Therapy in Clinton, OK having reached 84 years of age.
Helen began her education at Eagle City Public Schools and continued there through 6th grade. She attended Fay Public Schools after that until she graduated in 1959. After graduating high school, Helen worked each summer and saved money to attend Southwestern State College. She worked at Ratcliffe's Book Store to pay for her room and board. She completed four years of education earning her Bachelor's degree in accounting and economics in 1963.
In 1961, Helen met a handsome brown-eyed guy, Garland Leonard. They were married a year later on May 26, 1962 and enjoyed almost 61 years of marriage. Her husband, Garland was a lifelong resident of Weatherford where they made their home for many years. Helen continued to work at Ratcliffe's while also helping on the farm. She later took a job with Gary Leonard, CPA where she continued to work until retirement.
Helen enjoyed many hobbies. She spent much time fishing with Garland and making baby afghans for family and friends. Helen also enjoyed planting and tending a garden with Garland, and she especially loved her cats.
Although Helen had no children of her own, she was a wonderful mother figure to her nieces and nephews. She stepped into the role whenever she was needed and will be dearly missed by those she left behind.
Helen is survived by her sister, Filma Schimmels and husband, Fred. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, Wayne Plummer, James Plummer, Sharon Bacon and husband Doyle, Carol Lewis and husband Brad, Russell Busler and wife Alice, Ronald Busler and wife Jill, Juanita Hall and husband Gary, Judy Martin and husband Ray, Barbara Anthony and husband Larry, Marcy Beckett and husband Derwood, and Maria Whitney. She also leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garland Leonard; her three sisters, Irene Busler, Reba Busler Arthaud, Alsina Busler Plummer; her three brothers, Delmer Humphreys, Vernie Busler, and Asa Busler.
