Obituary

Harvey was born February 2nd, 1939, in Okeene, OK to Henry B. and Carrie (Wahl) Penner and passed away at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 2 days, on Friday, August 4, 2023, West of Corn in the tractor, doing one of the things he loved.

Harvey was raised and started school in Okeene before the family moved to a farm south of Corn. He graduated from Corn Bible School and Academy in 1956. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma College in Weatherford and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Industrial Arts. He also earned his Master of Industrial Arts Education from West Texas State University in 1969. On June 24, 1962, Harvey married Kaylin Bergman in Corn. They lived life side-by-side, seemingly inseparable in the last decade. Harvey taught Industrial Arts at: Wilson Junior High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hereford (Texas) High School, and Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He moved the family back to Oklahoma in 1978, making their home in Weatherford from that point forward. Here he put his passion for woodworking to use starting his own construction business, hiring mostly nephews and other relatives to work for him (even his son and one grandson). He built many custom homes, but his passion was for cabinets and trim-work. He was very meticulous, and it showed in the quality of his work. He finally retired from building in 2015 at the age of 76. But he continued farming until the moment of his passing.

As much as he loved woodworking, farming, and his family, he loved his Savior all the more. Following in the footsteps of his three older siblings and parents, he accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized shortly after. Throughout the rest of his life, he would always be involved in church life, teaching Sunday school classes for young married people as well as a men's class and eventually senior adults. Not to mention holding multiple positions of leadership from Sunday School Superintendent to deacon to overseer. In the mornings, he could be found in the living room sitting in his recliner reading his bible, devotional booklets and praying. The day could not start without it. Something he has passed on to his children. Harvey was also a member of Gideons International, and the Clinton Camp president for several years. He loved the Bible, seeing it as more than just a book but the Word of God which can, and will, transform lives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons, purchasing Bibles that will be taken around the world to people who need them (www.Gideons.org).

Harvey is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kaylin of their home in Weatherford; One son, Hal Penner and wife, Geneva of Weatherford; Two daughters, Jan Dewbre and husband Ross of Oklahoma City; Kaysa Pierce and husband Matt of New Braunfels, Texas; one sister, Maralea Kliewer of Corn; and six grandchildren Holtan (Suzanne) Pierce, Kelsey Dewbre, Trevor (Haven) Pierce, Halle (Dakota) Clayton, Jamie Dewbre and Harrison Penner. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, Marion and Wayman.
