Memorial services for Dr. Gustavo Ramon Gus Ortega, 68 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at St. Eugene Catholic Church with Father Lourdu Ponnapati under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Gus was born December 6, 1945, in El Paso, Texas to Gustavo Ramon and Conrada (Aguirre) Ortega and passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at Weatherford Regional Hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Gus was raised and attended school in El Paso, Texas. He attended the University of Texas in Austin where he earned his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy. Gus started his teaching career with Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1975 and taught for 30 years until he retired in 2005. On March 19, 1993, he married Dolores Jean Russell in El Paso, Texas and made their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Gus enjoyed being active in his church where he was a devout Catholic. Gus was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Oklahoma Retired Educators Association, and a sponsor of the Pharmacy Fraternity.

Gus is survived by his wife, Dolores Jean Russell of their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma; two brothers, Miguel Ortega of Galveston, Texas and Jorge Ortega and wife, Leslie of New Haven, Connecticut; two sisters, Judy Favila and husband, Richard of El Paso, Texas and Becky Velez of Oakland, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or to the St. Eugene Catholic Church.
