Gusta Alta
Finley
February 8, 2017
Funeral services for Gusta Alta Finley, 102 year-old Hydro, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017, 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church with Joe Sanders officiating and speaker, Charlie Wieland. Burial will follow in Hydro Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Gusta was born March 9, 1914, in Scotland, Arkansas to William W.T. and Laura (Yancy) Bost and passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Weatherford Regional Hospital.
Gusta lost her mother when she was only 6 years-old, and her father died shortly after. Gusta was raised to adulthood by older brothers and sisters in the Gracemont, Oklahoma area. She worked in the Farris Caf where she met a young handsome Harvey Finley who was employed at a cotton gin. They married November 6, 1937. They had a daughter, Wilda Maxine, born in 1939. The war needed help so the family moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked for Boeing Airplane. Gusta sewed blockout curtains for the planes and Harvey worked in transportation. In 1945, the small family returned to make their home south of Hydro buying 160 acre farm. They made a living with cattle, wheat, and cotton. In 1955, another daughter Deb arrived. Gusta was an avid homemaker teaching herself how to sew and can vegetables and was President of the Foss Extension Club for several years. She was employed at TG&Y in the fabric department in Weatherford until its closing. She attended many local fairs winning a number of blue ribbons for her canning and cakes. She received the State of Oklahoma Citation of Service at her 100th birthday. Gusta moved to Maple Lawn Estate in 2007. Gusta was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Hydro. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Childrens Fund or to the Hydro First Responders.
Gusta is survived by one daughter, Lynn Graham and husband, Tony of Hydro, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Shelbi Unruh Woods and husband, Mike, Seth Unruh and wife, Shelby, all of Hydro, Richard Thames of Amarillo, TX, Amy Wynn and husband Dustin of Cement, OK and Stacey Graham of Hammon, OK; six great-grandchildren, Creden and Oakli Woods, Trek and Addy Unruh, Allison Brown and husband Cade and Dylan Wynn; also a number of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Orville, Arthur, and Odis; three sisters, Velma, Mae, and Alma; one daughter, Wilda; and a life-long friend, Katherine Kimble.
Our special thanks to the staff at Maple Lawn Estate who allowed her dignity, friendship, and unmeasured care.
