Funeral services for Gordon E. Speed, 97 year-old former Eakly, Oklahoma resident, will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Assembly of God Church in Eakly, Oklahoma with Darrin Speed officiating. Burial will follow in the Eakly Cemetery, in Eakly, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.
Gordon was born October 6, 1915 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma to Robert Bert Speed and Annie Traylor Speed and departed this life November 8, 2012 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma at the age of 97. He married Mary Alice Cope in Colony, Oklahoma, July 13, 1935, and they were blessed with 77 years together. Gordon was an Assembly of God minister and pastored churches in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, Groom, Texas, Lone Wolf, Fletcher, Walters, Comanche, Cleveland, and Bristow, Oklahoma. He and Alice retired to Eakly, Oklahoma and continued to evangelize in retirement. They lived in Eakly for 35 years, and had recently moved to the Tulsa area to be near family.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, his brothers Leonard and Burly Speed, and a sister Nola Cope. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Joe who died in infancy and Harold Dean who died in 2004, and a grandson, Dennis Lynn Speed.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 77 years, Mary Alice Speed, two sons, Arthur and wife Anna , and Danny and wife Nancy, all of Tulsa and Dorenda Speed, daughter-in-law, of Duncan, Oklahoma. He had 5 grandchildren: Carla Speed Ragsdale of Tulsa, Darren Speed and wife Angela of North Richland Hills, Texas, Debbi Speed Waugh and husband Bryan of Humble, Texas, Dede Speed Lee and husband Rodney, of Duncan, and JoJo Speed Suson and husband Mark also of Duncan. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Jo Thompson and husband, Carl of Taft, California.
He is survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Grant, Adam and Rachel Ragsdale of Tulsa, Alex and Ethan Speed of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Morgan Easterly and husband Charles of Grapevine, Texas. Megan Montieth and husband Mark of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Bryce Waugh and wife Lacy of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Josh Suson and wife Addison of Norman, Oklahoma, Kirsten Suson of Norman, Oklahoma, Kay Kay Tiffany and husband Andrew , of Moore, Oklahoma, and Kyle Lee and wife Libby, of Weatherford, Oklahoma.
He also has one great-great- granddaughter, Maelynn Montieth, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and a great number of nieces, nephews and friends.
