Obituary

Funeral: 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 17th, 2013First United Methodist Church

Funeral services for George Calvin Scott LTC. (Ret), 80 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, north of Fay, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

George was born November 17, 1933, in Hammon, Oklahoma, to Henry C. And Carrie E. (Adams) Scott and passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford, Oklahoma. George grew up in Fay, Oklahoma, and graduated from Fay High School, 1952. He became a Christian as a young man and served as Sunday School Superintendent at his church, and sang in the choir. He was drafted into the Army right out of high school and served in the Korean War. When he returned home he went to Southwestern Oklahoma State University. George received his B.S. degree on a Friday, 1961, and started working at the State Dept. Of Health in Oklahoma City the following Monday where he worked for 26 years in Fiscal Services.

While a student at Southwestern, George became actively involved in the 95th Army Reserve and worked his way through the ranks, retiring after 30 years of service with the army as Lt. Col. He received the Meritorious Service Medal for his service in the Adjutant Reserve from February 1974 to 1984. In addition he recieved a certificate for 30 years of service with the Army; a medallion for his dress blue uniform; a ribbon for his green uniform and a lapel pin for civilian clothes which he always wore proudly.

George is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rayburn and Henry Allen (Buddy), also two infant siblings. Survivors include his sister, Jana Lou Scott, of Weatherford. Three nieces and their husbands; Sandra D. Preston and husband, Steve, of Manhattan, Kansas; Tammy R. Miller and Husband, Rick, of Wakarusa, Kansas; and Cheryl D.Lasselle and husband, Jeff, of Racine, Wisconsin. Great nieces and nephews include: Mr and Mrs. Blaine Cash, Daniel Preston, Alex Lasselle, Abbie, Amanda and Braedan Miller, numerous cousins, other relatives, very special neighbors and many special family friends, Tom Litsch of Clinton, Brent and Peggie Gibson and Families, Edmond, Okla.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in Weatherford and Fay, or to the Heartland of America Foundation in Weatherford.
