Funeral services for Gary Dean Wolgamott, 75 of Weatherford, Oklahoma will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma, with Pastor Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.
Gary Dean Wolgamott was born July 23, 1940, in Alva, Oklahoma to Winona (Willig) Wolgamott and Kenneth Wolgamott. He passed away December 18, 2015, in Weatherford, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years, 4 months, and 25 days. Gary was raised and attended school in Hardtner, Kansas and graduated from Hardtner High School in 1958. Gary went on to attend Northwestern State College, currently Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. He earned his Bachelors Degree in 1963. On April 28, 1962, he married the love of his life, Sandy Seibel. Gary and Sandy went on to attend Oklahoma State University where Gary graduated with a PhD in Microbiology in 1968. Sandy and Gary moved to Weatherford in 1967 and he began his career at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He taught various advanced science classes including Microbiology, Epidemiology, and Immunology. He later served as the Associate Dean of Allied Health. He was awarded a summer faculty fellowship program in Aeronautics and Space Research held at NASA Johnson Space Center during the period of 1975 and 1976. While teaching at SWOSU, Gary became active in Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society serving as National President for eight years. He was a member of the American Society for Microbiology and Lambda Tau Honorary Medical Technology Society serving as the National Treasurer for 35 years. He received the Bernhardt Award for Teaching Excellence in 1996. In 2006 Gary was presented the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Outstanding Graduate-Education Award. Garys career at SWOSU spanned 45 years where his passion for his profession and his love for teaching and mentoring left a legacy of health care professionals across the state and nation. Gary retired in 2012. Gary was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford, Oklahoma and the Weatherford Kiwanis Club. He loved to travel with his wife and they went on wonderful adventures making many life-long friends. He enjoyed bicycling, hiking, skiing, traveling and reading. Gary loved his family and he was an amazing husband, father and grandfather.
Gray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandy Wolgamott; one son Thad Wolgamott and wife, Marilyn of Weatherford; one daughter Dotti Forehand and husband, Shannon of Stephenville, Texas; six grandchildren, Kenny Wolgamott, Tyler Wolgamott, Tatum Wolgamott, Riley Forehand, Avery Forehand and Emma Forehand and one sister, Judy Wolgamott of Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents.
