Gary Alvin
Davis
September 2, 1934 – September 9, 2023
Gary Alvin Davis was born September 2, 1934, in Gracemont, OK to Alvin and Elizabeth (Adams) Davis and passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 89 years and 7 days.
Gary was raised in Hydro, OK and graduated Hydro High in 1952, where he was co-valedictorian with his high school sweetheart, Letha Scott. He attended OCU on scholarship for one year, graduating from SWOSU in 1956. One week after graduation, he married the love of his life, Letha Marie Scott, and began their life journey together on June 3, 1956. They made their home in Tulsa for 6 years, where he worked as an accountant for ONG before moving to OKC to work for GE for two years. He received his Master's degree from Tulsa University in 1963. In 1965, Gary began his life's work as a dedicated Financial Advisor for over 55 years. He earned his CLU and qualified for the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table for 39 consecutive years, making him a lifetime member. Gary never retired and worked tirelessly to help others.
Gary accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was young and faithfully served the church by singing in the choir for over 70 years, teaching Sunday School for high school through adult classes for over 40 years and serving in several administrative capacities at church throughout the years. Gary served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader for many years and as Chairman of the Board for Education Employment Ministry (TEEM). Gary enjoyed being active, playing basketball, tennis, snow skiing, and traveling many places with friends and family, especially to his favorite place, Hawaii.
Gary loved sports! He was an avid OU fan, beginning by volunteering as an Eagle Scout usher for OU football in the 1940's. Gary and Letha have attended OU home football games since the 1960's. Gary, his brother, and friends took a baseball trip every year and attended as many sports events as possible. But his greatest joy was being with his family. He & Letha supported anything involved with their children and grandchildren and were always present with a smile and gave the best hugs!
Gary is survived by his wife, Letha Davis, two daughters, Kerri Patterson (Tim), Laura Shellhammer (Chip), and four grandchildren, Regan, Lindsey (David), Sidney (Grant), Kyra, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gary and his younger brother, Bob Davis, were very close and worked together their whole lives. Bob preceded Gary in death by only 10 days. They will both be dearly missed.
