Garland Dean Leonard was born July 27, 1940 in Weatherford, OK to George Flourney and Mamie (Hughey) Leonard and passed away Friday, April 14, 2023 at Weatherford Regional Hospital having reached the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 18 days.

Garland was raised northwest of Weatherford. He attended Union School through the eighth grade. He then attended Weatherford Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1958. Garland went on to attend Southwestern State College, graduating in the spring of 1962 with a business and economics degree. Garland married Helen Busler on May 26, 1962. They made their home in Weatherford. That fall he went back to college and earned his teaching degree in accounting but, farming was his passion. He took over the family farm at the age of 17 and continued to farm until his passing. Garland also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Garland is survived by his wife, Helen of 60 years, of their home in Weatherford; three sisters-in-law, Irene Busler, Alsina Plummer, and Filma Schimmels; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Flourney and Mamie Leonard; two brothers, George and JJ (Buck) Leonard; and one sister, Corene Wagnon.
