Fred "Freddie" Harvey Jones was born on September 17, 1934, near Putnam, Oklahoma to Fred Arley and Ruth Lee (Hulme) Jones. Fred spent his childhood in southern Dewey County. He attended Independence Rural District School and graduated from Putnam High School in 1952. Fred later attended college at Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University (OSU), in Stillwater and graduated in 1955 with a degree in Agriculture.

Fred was an active and enthusiastic worker during his life. He began his career working for the Cooperative Extension Service with OSU, and later worked as a landman for several petroleum companies and as an agent for Physicians Mutual Insurance Company. Fred was an avid OSU sports fan. He was an original member of the OSU Posse Club and was recognized for his support in 2008. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. Fred, his dad, and his brother Jerry went each year to North Dakota for a week of pheasant hunting with his bird dog Suds, who he dearly loved.

He met the love of his life, his wife Omaira Virginia Buitrago Perdomo de Jones, in Bogota, Columbia. They were married on October 13, 1998, at New Covenant Church in Oklahoma City. Fred is survived by his wife and his four daughters: Marla Peek of Guthrie, Marcy Greene and her husband John of Shallowater, TX, Missy Jones of Oklahoma City and Monica Hardesty of Norman; seven grandchildren Kelley Bettis and her husband Jeff, Riley Harrell, Jace Harrell and his wife Callie, Justin Pickens and his wife Aly, Ella Pickens, Pete Pickens, and Ian Wallace Hardesty; and four great-grandchildren Philip Hays, Cora Bell and Hanna Bettis and Lily Pickens.
