Fern Elizabeth Short was born October 13, 1919 in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Chester Wright and Eva (Roof) Wright and passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 in Weatherford, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, 9 months and 19 days.

Fern was raised just north of Weatherford and attended Cottonwood Rural School and Weatherford High School. She married Amel Short January 25, 1937 and they made their home together in Weatherford. They had three sons Cecil, Steve and David. Amel passed away September 29, 1976. Fern worked for 21 years for Owl Photo Company and then for Cherokee Gift Shop for 13 years. During this time she was a telephone counselor for a Grief Program. Fern was steadfast in her faith and believed in helping her church in every way that she could. She has helped with Bible School, the Together We Build program, and the Nehemiah Project and also sang in the PraiSeniors Choir. Fern enjoyed attending church functions, volunteering, reading and traveling.

Fern is survived by her son, Steve and Nancy Short of Houston, Texas; her sister Freda Schutes of Weatherford, Oklahoma; her Brother, Bob Wright of Los Cruces, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Matt, Luke, Steve Jr., Jacqueline, David, Stephanie, William, Melanie and Natalie; and 8 great-grandchildren, Kelsey Ann, Caleb, Keaton, Kloey, Max, David Jr., Jacob and Connor. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, LeRoy and Donald; two sisters, Doris and Joy; and two sons, Cecil and David.
