Erma Rhowene Bentley was born on April 12, 1929 to Arlington and Letha (Stewart) McCarthey in Roosevelt, OK and passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Heritage Point Nursing Home in Tulsa, OK at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 16 days.
Rhowene was raised near Santa Monica, CA until the age of 17 when her family moved to Vici, OK. On September 7, 1947 she married Wilbur Oro Bentley in Canadian, TX and they made their home in Vici, OK and several other places before moving to Weatherford in 1966. Rhowene worked for 3M from 1976 until 1989 doing color coding. Rhowene married Melvin Gossman in 1996 and they made their home in Weatherford and Yukon. Rhowene enjoyed dancing, sewing, going to the casino and traveling. If you have ever traveled with her you know her sense of direction would lead to many unexpected adventures. She was always up for a good laugh and loved to play Chicken Foot, Canasta, and Rook. She grew to love the name Grandma Weenie which came from one of her great-grand kids who was confused about her name.
Rhowene is survived by one son, Russell Bentley of Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Judy Carder and husband Matt of Sparks, NV, Wilma Killman and husband Darrell of Yukon, OK, and Cheryl Cates of Missoula, MT; one brother, Earl McCarthey and wife Ellen of Killeen, TX; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one brother, Charles; two sisters, Elaine and Barbara; and two sons, Tommy Lynn and Gary Don.
