Obituary

Funeral: 2:00 PM Saturday, August 12th, 2017Swan Lake Baptist Church

Funeral services for Ellis Clarence Powell, 93 year-old Eakly, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017, 2:00 P.M. at Swan Lake Baptist Church with Huston Veal officiating. Burial will follow in Eakly Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Ellis was born March 21, 1924, in White Owl, South Dakota to Jefferson Davis and Mary Wilamina (Mullersmann) Powell and passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma. Ellis was raised and attended school in South Dakota until age 13 when his family moved to Vinita, Oklahoma area. When he became of age, Ellis joined the Army where he served in Europe during World War II for 3 years, also the Battle of the Bulge and Rhine, and in 1950-51 served in Korea for 2 years. In October 1951, Ellis married Betty Bond and they made their home in Vinita and from 1956 to 1980 moved to Cordell. In 1980, he established his home in Eakly and operated an earth moving company for 45 years of his life. Ellis married Emma Ruth Wilburn in 1982. He enjoyed raising cattle, working, practical jokes, funny stories, and spending time with family and friends.

Ellis is survived by three sons, Randy Powell of Eakly, Oklahoma, Rick Powell of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Rocky Powell and wife, Ginger of Weatherford, Oklahoma; two sisters, Laura Dodt of Clearwater, Florida and Alice Darnell of Bluejacket, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma Ruth; two brothers, Carl and Lloyd; two sisters, Doris and Edna; and one great-granddaughter, Emery Thompson.
