Obituary

Edna Allen was born on May 3, 1933 to Joseph Wilson Snodgrass and Nellie Ellen Bowser, in Lenora, Oklahoma on the family farm and passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Corn Heritage Village of Weatherford, at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 15 days.

She was schooled at a country school before attending Taloga Schools graduating as Valedictorian in 1951. Edna graduated from Oklahoma A and M College with a Bachelor's Of Science in Education in 1958. She later earned a Master's Degree from SWOSU.

Edna married George Randall Allen in 1954 and they raised three children, Rebecca, Melinda, and Randall. After a short stint in Pampa, Texas, she and the family returned to the family farm in Dewey County. Edna, like many rural wives, devoted her time to raising children and assisting with the farm operations. Edna enjoyed dance hall square dancing, often dragging her children to wherever the hottest callers were calling that week's jig.

After many years of farming Edna and the family moved to Amarillo, Texas. Like many people during the oil boom of the late 80's the big city of Amarillo called the family. Edna taught at an Amarillo Business School and substitute taught in the Amarillo schools.

Edna returned to Oklahoma and settled in the Big W in 1994. Edna was a faithful volunteer at the Pioneer Center for 22 years, a member of AAUW, The Mineral Rights Owner Association, AARP, and was a member of the Southwestern Christian Church. She was also a tile shark in the city Mahjong game. Edna was even known to participate in a few poker games, but did so out of state, so as to keep her reputation as a fine upstanding citizen. Edna was once nearly banned from a Reno casino for counting cards. Edna was not shy about seeking out the Mayors, as well as the Police and Fire Chiefs of Weatherford to bend their ear about matters involving the Pioneer Center or other City of Weatherford doings. For many years she traveled with First Friends of the First National Bank and for a while, there was not a bus trip that she was not on. Edna was an excellent chef and baker. Her chocolate pies were State Fair Quality. Her chicken and noodles were also a big deal.

Many folks might call Edna a pistol and in her later years she went unfiltered as to her thoughts on just about everything. Edna was faithful in studying her Sunday School and daily Bible lesson and was religious about her crossword puzzles.

Edna, also affectionately known as NeneNA, is survived by her three children, Rebecca Parsons and her husband, Earl of Piedmont, OK; Melinda Griffin and her husband, Stephen and their daughter Haley of Fort Worth, TX; Randall Allen and his wife, BarBara and their sons, Payden and David Allen of Oklahoma City, OK. Special gratitude to our much loved Lanita Nikkel and her family for all the care and love they had for Edna. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lorene Farnsworth. Edna was loved by many family members and numerous friends from Weatherford, Dewey County, and especially her family from California. Edna would like to thank the Weatherford Community for such a great life in Weatherford. The family wishes to thank Corn Heritage of Weatherford, Shepherd Hospice, Mike Schmitz, and her doctors, Dr.Blake Badgett, Dr. Tisdale, Dr. Villines, and Dr. Phelps, and Eddie Berrong, who is not a doctor, but a really great friend.

Edna's only regret is that she was never able to land "Big John" the 9 pound bass that played cat and mouse with her in her farm pond.

Memorials may be made to the Pioneer Center of Weatherford, Oklahoma.
