Funeral services for Edmund J. Weichel, 98 year-old Corn, Oklahoma resident, will be held Sunday, May 8, 2016, 2:00 P.M. in the Columbian Memorial Presbyterian Church in Colony with Rev. LaVonne Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Red Top Cemetery, southwest of Colony, Oklahoma under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Ed was born May 4, 1918, in Colony, Oklahoma, to Edmund and Dora (Braasch) Weichel and passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma. Ed was raised southwest of Colony, Oklahoma and attended school at Red Top Rural School and graduated from Cowden High School in 1937. He started farming and ranching after he graduated. On September 1, 1940, he married Mabel Sappington in Cowden, Oklahoma and made their home in the Colony area and in 1963 they moved into Colony. Ed stayed active in ranching until age 92 when he retired. He enjoyed playing dominoes, traveling, playing solitaire, and spending time with his family. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Colony.
Ed is survived by his brother, Walter Weichel of Abilene, Texas; his two sons, Thomas Weichel and wife, Elaine and Jimmy Weichel and wife, Jane all of Colony, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Alfred, Harvey, Raymond, and one in infancy; and five sisters, Ella, Annie, Adalia, Alma, and Dorothy.
