Funeral services for Earl C. Wingard, 78 year-old Thomas, Oklahoma resident, will be held Sunday, July 12, 2015, 2:00 P.M. at Pleasant View Mennonite Church with Gary Miller, Leroy Peachey, and David Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Amish Cemetery, north of Weatherford, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.
Earl C. Wingard was born November 18, 1936 in Thomas, OK to Clarence and Malinda (Yoder) Wingard, and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 20 days.
Earl was raised in the Thomas area, the second of 5 children. He spent his childhood in Custer County, attending Thomas Public School.
He was baptized in his youth in the Amish Church; later he joined the Zion Amish Mennonite Church, and was a faithful member until his death.
On October 8, 1957 he married Irene Yoder of Thomas, OK and they were married 53 years, 9 months and 14 days. They made their home SE of Thomas where he resided until his death.
In his youth he was known for his skills in cotton picking. During his earlier years of married life he did a lot of custom swathing and baling. He also enjoyed raising cattle and wheat, along with selling seed wheat and fertilizer. His favorite of all the above was working with cattle. He was a hard-working man and was known for his honesty and generosity in business dealings. He was also very involved in all church activities, including being church treasurer for many years. He always enjoyed playing games, especially Dominoes in his latter years.
He is survived by his 5 children: Larry Wingard and wife Merlene of Thomas, OK, Darrel Wingard of Paris, TX, Paul Wingard and wife Loretta of Thomas, OK, Mary (Wingard) Yoder and husband Ben of Montezuma, GA, Ruth (Wingard) Kuhns and husband Nevin of Chambersburg, PA; 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; 1 brother, Freeman Wingard and wife Verna, 2 sisters Emma (Wingard) Yoder, Beulah (Wingard) Yoder and husband Irvin, all of Montezuma, GA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene, infant daughter Letha Ann, parents Clarence and Malinda Wingard, 1 sister Mary Ellen, and 1 brother-in-law Allen Yoder.
