Dwight Ray Snay was born on June 17, 1933 in Plevna, KS to Hadley and Gladys (Withroder) Snay and passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at his home in Thomas, OK having reached the age 86 years, 6 month, 1 days .
Dwight was raised on the family farm and graduated from Plevna high school in 1951. Dwight joined the National Guard when he was 17 and served 9 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Fort Hayes State College allowing him to obtain his dream job with the United States Fish & Wildlife Service where he exceled in his career, finally being promoted to District Supervisor. He began his career in Oklahoma, transferred to Arizona for several years finally returning to Oklahoma. Dwight dedicated his life to animal damage control and spent his career hunting coyotes, bobcats, wild hogs, racoons, beaver, and even the occasional mountain lion or jaguar. He earned the US Dept of Agriculture classification of Arial Gunner in a Rotary Wing Aircraft and hunted coyotes out of helicopters for several years. Dwight was involved in developing the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Lawton, OK. He loved his work, as well as the men he worked with and supervised. In his spare time he enjoyed taking his mules, sons and friends on annual camping trips high in the mountains of Colorado to hunt elk and deer. After his retirement in 1998 he enjoyed spending time with his wife, playing with his grandchildren and being the mischievous prankster.
Dwight met and married the love of his life Helen Lavon (Morain) Snay October 9, 1959 beginning their life together in Ardmore, Ok. They had their daughter while still in Oklahoma, moved to Arizona having 2 more children and the 4th child after they relocated back to Oklahoma. The family finally settled in Thomas, Oklahoma in 1973. Dwight is survived by his wife, Helen; 1 daughter Brenda Snay Matthew and husband Dave of Mansfield, TX; 1 son Alan Snay and his wife Melody of Thomas, OK; 2 sisters, Karen Snay of Plevna, KS and Lana Foster and her husband Gary of Abbyville, KS; 10 grandchildren Katrina, Cole, Miranda, Lauryn, Tristen, Garrett, Selena, Victoria, Sara and Emily; 1 great grandchild Hendrix and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Max; and 2 sons Tom and Dusty.
