Obituary

Dwaine was born November 7, 1931, in humble beginnings to Thomas Raymond Schneider and Emma Christina (Hamburger) Schneider and passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Corn Heritage Village of Weatherford. Thomas and Emma raised Dwaine and his sisters on the family's Oklahoma Centennial farm, which was the foundation of Dwaine's character and outlook on life. He grew up and graduated from Custer City High School. During his teenage years, he became an Eagle Scout.

Dwaine maintained his love of farming throughout his life. On the family farm, he implemented crop rotation and arranged an irrigation system—new and up and coming at the time. As much as Dwaine was an organizer and innovator, he was an excellent storyteller and leatherworker. His knack for giving advice, whether solicited or not, was unmatched. Most often, the advice started with, "Let me tell you something…" As a self-proclaimed expert in conversation, Dwaine could make friends with anyone. Many of his conversations included the previously mentioned advice or his opinion on a particular matter (he held plenty of opinions). No matter where he was or the time of the day, Dwaine really enjoyed his coffee, which required two packets of sweetener (this necessity didn't allow for pickiness) and a generous pour of half-and-half. He enjoyed sports of any kind, and he especially loved watching his children and grandchildren play competitively. Through and through, Dwaine was a fierce Thomas Terrier, OU Sooner, and an avid follower of his grandchildren's latest adventures and challenges.

Dwaine attended college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and earned his bachelor's degree in industrial arts and speech. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army. During his service with the Army, he successively graduated from leadership training. After his military service, Dwaine began his teaching and coaching career at Bradley, Oklahoma taking his first high school girl basketball team to state. While coaching in Bradley, he met the love of his life, Wanda, while coaching at Bradley. Dwaine and Wanda Schneider were married on August 18, 1956, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, Dwaine and Wanda moved to Norman where he commenced his master's studies in education.

On completion of his master's degree, Dwaine moved his young family back home to Custer County where he and Wanda continued growing their family. Dwaine served Custer City Schools with his coaching, teaching, and administrative skills and experience. After nine years in Custer City, he moved the family to Thomas where he began a twenty-four year stint as superintendent of schools. During his time as the superintendent, Dwaine built a school system at Thomas that developed and graduated innumerable high-quality students who have moved forward to serve in their communities, states, and the nation. While superintendent, Dwaine also received a secondary schools administrative certificate from the University of Oklahoma, which he was especially proud of.

When he wasn't working on the farm or at work, Dwaine served his community and state by active membership in the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, including a term as President; the local United Methodist Men's group; Gideons International; the Oklahoma Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, including service as a district lay leader; and Boy Scouts. He was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, willing to serve others at any cost and loved participating in Gideons International and the United Methodist Men. Dwaine enjoyed several hobbies, including gardening, golfing, quail hunting, and fishing; his golf swing was best described as "unique." His gardening successes were sometimes overshadowed by his zealous use of weed killer. His strawberries never stood a chance.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Thomas Raymond Schneider; his youngest sister, Christine Ethel Greenwood; and his eldest daughter, Vickie Ann (Schneider) Chapman. Dwaine is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Wanda Fay (Motley) Schneider; his son Thomas Dwaine and wife Donna of Tahlequah, OK; daughter Vinita (Schneider) Chapman and husband John of Woodbury, CT; daughter Valinda (Schneider) Fisher and husband Tim of Thomas, OK; grandson Kelby Jinkens and wife Christy, and their children Emery, Kaliber, and Swayde; grandson Kody Jinkens and wife Erin and their children Maguire and Ryder; grandson James Chapman and wife Hannah; granddaughter Lauren Chapman and wife Katie; grandson Thomas R. Schneider; grandson Andrew Chapman; grandson Michael Chapman; grandson David Chapman; granddaughter Katie Schneider; grandson Tate Schneider; step grandchildren Tabbitha (Fisher) Tannehill husband Jeremy and son Jackson, and Chance Fisher; sisters Carol Ann Schneider and Della Jean (Schneider) Littleton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Despite the best and earnest efforts of his family, Dwaine never answered lingering questions about who Sam Hill is and where he is from.
