Obituary

Dorothy Mae Bergner was born October 12, 1938 in Bates, Arkansas to Eugene and Mattie "Dimple" (Brown) Johnson and passed away October 28, 2023 at her home in Weatherford, OK at the age of 85 years and 16 days.

Dorothy was raised on her family farm in Bates, Arkansas, but attended school in Waldron, AR up through the beginning of her senior year when she married her school sweetheart Don Stinson on August 15, 1955. They then moved to Jenks, Oklahoma where she finished her high school year graduating from Jenks High School in 1956. After graduation she attended Tulsa business college where she earned her associates degree. In 1958, Don was tragically killed in a house fire at their home.

She then began working at Robert Hall clothing department store in Tulsa where she was acknowledged as head sales clerk. She met Carroll Bergner while he was also living in Tulsa and working for CR Anthony's clothing department store. They were joined in marriage on April 12, 1959 and enjoyed 42 years together. Both then worked for CR Anthony's moving to Liberal, Kansas and then Clinton, OK for a short time before making their home in Hobart, OK. Carroll became manager and Dorothy worked beside him as the head sales clerk for over 25 years as they raised their three children. In 1987 the store closed and they were both transferred to Anthony's in Watonga. OK. until leaving in 1990 to open and manage the Western Wear Outlet in Moore, OK. owned by Langston's.

After Carroll's death, Dorothy became manager of the store until retiring in 2002 and moving to Weatherford, OK. Dorothy and Carroll worked together by each other's side in retail for over 30 years. Dorothy was a member of the Weatherford Church of Christ. She enjoyed fishing and cooking, and hosted most all family gatherings throughout the years as she was known for her large meals and delicious food. She also loved visiting people whether they were customers, friends, or family. She had a generous heart and helped many family and friends in any way she could. She loved her family and her home and enjoyed time spent there together. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Dorothy is survived by twin sons, Larry Bergner and wife Cindy of Adair, OK, Terry Bergner and wife Janet of Marlow, OK; one daughter Tammy Smoot and husband Glenn of Weatherford, Ok; eight grandchildren,  Wakley, Wyatt, and Will Bergner, Hannah Bergner Copeland, Hayley, Hope, and Hunter Bergner, and Shelby Smoot Troyer and two great grandchildren Raiden Bergner and Savannah Copeland; brother-in-law, Carol Gaunt; and many nieces and nephews.  Dorothy is preceded in death by her husbands Don Stinson and Carroll Bergner; parents, Eugene and Mattie Johnson; and her brother Robert (Bob) Johnson.

The family would like to extend our appreciation for the wonderful care given to our mother during her illness. Thank you to her compassionate in-home caregivers Cindy, Reba, and Patty who not only served as caretakers but became part of our family, Shepherd Hospice nurses who provided great care and were our angels in time of need, Dr. Marshall Huser, and Weatherford Regional Hospital nurses and ER staff.
