Funeral services for Dora Lou Johnson, 88 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Monday, March 14, 2016, 10:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Flansburg and Rev. Joe Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Hydro Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Dora was born August 10, 1927, in the home of her parents, William Watson and Eula Dean (Reager) Tullis in Ingersoll, Oklahoma and passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Sterling House in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Dora was raised and attended school in Ingersoll and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1945. She attended Northwestern State College for two years. At the age of 40 she received an Associate Degree from El Reno Junior College. Dora united in marriage to M/Sgt. Clyde Johnson, March 3, 1949, in Alva, Oklahoma, on a three day pass from Vance AFB.
While serving in the Air Force, Dora and Clyde moved to many bases from Oklahoma, Washington, California, and Texas. While stationed at Mather AFB in California, a son, Robert was born. Seventeen months later twins, Jerry and Sharon, were born at Vance AFB in Enid, Oklahoma. Clyde retired and he and family moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma where he owned and operated Johnsons Radio and T.V. Service. In 1961, the family moved to Yukon, Oklahoma where Clyde would work for FAA.
Wherever they moved, Dora would enjoy teaching a Sunday school class and there was always that opportunity. She was a member of the Christian Women of America. Held office in Pro. America in Oklahoma City; Parent Teachers of America in Yukon; Republican Women; American Legion Auxiliary in Yukon and Hydro. She loved the fellowship she had with the Lord Jesus Christ and prayed that her family, relatives and friends would enjoy the same fellowship.
After her children graduated from high school, Dora worked 10 years at 3M, where she made many life-long friends. Dora enjoyed visiting the shut-ins and teaching the Adult Ladies Class at the First Baptist Church.
In 2007, Dora and Clyde decided to move to Weatherford. During this time she was blessed for 8 years with many new friends at the Sterling House community.
Dora is survived by two sons, Robert L. Johnson and wife, DeAnna of Custer City, Oklahoma and Jerry R. Johnson and wife, Lana of Troy, Alabama; one daughter, Sharon K. Kay and husband, Barry of Athens, Alabama; and four grandchildren, Nikki S. Hensley and husband, Mikal, Aaron Johnson, Taylor Holon, and Tully Kay. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; ten brothers and sisters, Beulah Beatrice Tullis, Roy Lytle Tullis, Myrth Lucille (Tullis) Henderson, Vernon Gertrude Jackson Tullis, Lester Leroy Tullis, Wilfred Webster Tullis, Donald Milton Tullis, Cleon Eldon Tullis, Eula Mae Tullis, and Billy Rosalie (Tullis) Sargent.
