Funeral services for Donnie Lee Chambers, 79 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church with Earl Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Don was born December 18, 1933 in Lookeba, Oklahoma to Luther Willis and Joyce (Wallace) Chambers and passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Weatherwood Assisted Living in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Don was raised and attended school in Eakly and graduated from Eakly High School in 1953. On June 14, 1953, he married Mary Ann Darnell at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Hydro, Oklahoma and made their home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Don earned his Bachelor Degree in Ministry from Oklahoma Baptist University. During his ministry they led churches in Pauls Valley, Paoli, Lexington, Hooker, and served as Director of Missions for the Oklahoma Panhandle Baptist Association in Guymon. He retired in 1992, and in 1994 started Chambers Landscaping and retired in 2012. Don enjoyed being with his family, gardening, and making yards beautiful. His life was dedicated to serving the Lord; and mission work in the Philippines and Mexico on crusades. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Weatherford.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Chambers of their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma; two sons, Gary Chambers and wife, Tammy of Searcy, Arkansas and Stephen Chambers of Guymon, Oklahoma; one daughter, Denise Vazquez of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one brother, Fred Chambers and wife, Sandy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Karen Thompson and husband, Phil of Bloomfield, New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Dale; one sister, Belle; one grandson, Christopher; and one great-granddaughter, Nikol.
