Funeral services for Donald Ray Smith, 67 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, August 22 at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Don was born on February 25, 1946 to Virgil and Marie (Farrell) Smith in Clinton, Oklahoma and passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 in Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dons family soon moved to Weatherford where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Weatherford High School in 1964. On June 16, 1965, he married Linda Saunders in Weatherford and they made their home in Weatherford where he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Leaving Weatherford in 1971, Don and Linda moved to Liberal, Kansas and Don taught at the Liberal Area Vocational Technical School for eight years. In 1979, Don took a job with 3M and returned to Weatherford. He later operated Smith Service Station from 1982 to 1987. In 1991, he began working for the City of Weatherford and also owned and operated Southwest Pool & Spas. Don and Linda raised three children, Garrett, Sydney and Tiffani. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, reading and drinking coffee with his friends at Jerrys Restaurant at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. He loved playing with his grandchildren and spending time with family.
Don is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda of their home in Weatherford: a son; Garrett Smith, and his wife, Laura of Weatherford: and two daughters; Sydney Ward and her husband, Abenicio of Mustang, OK and Tiffani Gallagher and her husband, Brandon of Enid, OK: a sister; Shirley Horst and her husband, Jerry of Oklahoma City, OK; nine grandchildren; Madison Fuller, Amber Trogdon, Jake Fuller, Nick Ward, Austin Trogdon, Isaac Fuller, Bode Gallagher, Piper Gallagher and Jackson Smith; numerous nieces and nephews and good friend, thought of as a second son, Greg Morley of Yukon, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Marie. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford, the First United Methodist Church ADAM Ministry, or the American Cancer Society.
