Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM Saturday, July 15th, 2017St. Eugene Catholic Church

Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Richard Bagby, 89 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017, 10:00 A.M. at St. Eugene Catholic Church with Father Christopher Tran officiating. Services are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Don was born May 29, 1928, to Eugene Ray Gene and Leo Vivian (Fox) Bagby in Topeka, Kansas and passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at his home in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Don, along with his brother Jim and sister Betty, grew up in Topeka in the family home which happened to offer a perfect perch for winter snowball fights. He had a large extended family which often visited them. He spent summers at his Uncle Lute's farm and loved every minute of it. He and his family belonged to the Holy Name Catholic Church and he attended Holy Name Catholic schools. After high school Don joined the Army and served on the East Coast. When he was discharged he worked for Santa Fe Railroad for a time. Then he decided to attend a refrigeration school in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon completion he moved to Wichita, Kansas, to start his career. There, on a blind date he met his wife of 57 years, Lois Green. They married and began their life together in Haysville, Kansas.

Don has always been very involved in his church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and he helped the parish he belonged to grow from a Quonset Hut to an actual building.

At the request of a close friend, in 1963, Don packed his family and moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to work for Southwestern Refrigeration. The family joined St. Eugene Catholic Church and became devoted members. Don belonged to St. Vincent De Paul, helped run the food pantry, worked on the parish council, and helped maintain the heating and cooling system and the building and grounds.

Don enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, boating, and travel. When he retired he and Lois took many trips in their motor home. His favorite trip was to Alaska. He took a yearly trip to Colorado and New Mexico each fall, but ill health prevented him from doing that last fall.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim, sister Betty, two great-grandsons, Brandon and Ryan, and his beloved wife. He is survived by his 5 children, Donna Kellison, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mary Chrismon, Ray Bagby, and Teresa Payne of Weatherford, and Kae Elkins of Sentinel, Oklahoma, 14 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, with one on the way and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way.
