Donald Gene Amen October 12, 1932 - August 29, 2026

Donald Gene Amen, age 93, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 29. He was born on October 12, 1932, to Audry and Marie (Brehm) Amen, the second of six children. The family lived on their farm six and a half miles south Of Weatherford, Oklahoma-a homestead Donald proudly co-owned throughout his life.

Donald attended a local country school four and a half miles south of Weatherford through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Weatherford High School with the Class of 1951.

Following high school, Donald attended Southwestern State College for one year before being called to service in the United States Army. After completing two years of military service, he earned a business degree from Draughon's Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1956. He then returned to Southwestern State College, completing his degree in Auto Mechanics in 1958.

On August 30, 1958, Donald married his lifelong neighbor Raelene Pascher, who grew up just one mile away. Having known each Other all their lives, they were united in marriage at Emmanuel Baptist Church in a standing-room-only ceremony. For their honeymoon, they took their first major trip together to Colorado Springs, taking in the sights of Pikes Peak and the Royal Gorge.

The newlyweds settled in Oklahoma City, where Donald served as head of the sales department for Macklanburg-Duncan from 1958 to 1974. Although they formed many lifelong friendships in Oklahoma City, Donald and Raelene chose to return home to Weatherford in 1974 to raise their family.

In 1962, they welcomed their son, Darren Ray Amen. Darren shared his father's passion for the land from an early age, working side by side with Donald for decades-planting, harvesting crops, and caring for their cattle.

In 1974, Donald established Don Amen Drilling Company, a water well service he operated until his retirement from the drilling business in 1982. He later joined Weatherford Public Schools, where he enjoyed working alongside the staff and students for many years.

In full retirement, Donald pursued hobbies he loved, including beekeeping, baking pies, and creating stained-glass pieces. Above all, Donald loved being outdoors on the farm, feeding and checking his cattle until his final year.

Donald lived 93 full years defined by hard work, devotion to his family, and love for the land.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Audry and Marie Amen; brothers, Richard and Larry Amen; and sisters, LaVelle Nickels and Shirley Williams.

He is survived by his beloved wife Of 68 years, Raelene; his son, Darren; his twin brother, Delbert Amen; his sister-in-law, Mary Amen; and a host of extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, 10:00 A.M. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford with Clint Carter and Greg Amen officiating. Burial will directly follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
