Mcmillon
November 17, 1932 – October 28, 2019
Don McMillon was born November 17, 1932, in Gotebo, Oklahoma to William Neal and Missie Artie (Long) McMillon and passed away Monday, October 8, 2019, at Corn Heritage Village of Weatherford, at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 11 days.
Don was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1950. Don attended SWOSU and worked for his tuition, room and board. While attending Southwestern he met his future bride, Teddy Carol Fruechting. In the summer of 1951, between his semesters at Southwestern, Don and a buddy spent the summer mining in Colorado, it was at this time, Don received his draft notice into the military. Don and Teddy Carol married June 20, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Weatherford. Through this union they had 3 children, Donise 1956, Michael 1957, and Kimberly 1962. Between 1954 and 1976 Don went to Officer candidate school and then onto Army flight school. He became a rated pilot, and flew numerous aircraft, including the OV1 Mohawk. Don flew in Vietnam and across Germany during the Cold War where he and the family moved 12 times and lived in 10 different states, including 2 tours in Germany. Don retired from the military after 23 years of dedicated service.
In 1976 the family returned to Weatherford. Don was selected to become the Weatherford Airport manager in 1978 and established McMillon Aviation Incorporated. During this time General Stafford approached Don to display some of his military and space memorabilia which eventually evolved into the Thomas P. Stafford Air and Space Museum. Don retired from the airport in 1999 to spend time with his family and travel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Stafford Air and Space Museum or Disabled American Veterans.
