Dixie Louise
Hogan
April 9, 1942 – November 19, 2019
Dixie was born to Albert Ralph and Ada Oriole (Green) Berry on April 9, 1942 in Miami, AZ. She passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Weatherwood Assisted Living in Weatherford, OK at the age of 77 years, 7 months and, 10 days.
Dixie graduated from Miami High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She taught for three years in Arizona and was then employed by the Department of Defense American School System in Germany where she met and married her husband, Vincent G. Hogan. She had their first child in Arizona while Vince was serving in Vietnam, and bore two daughters in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After moving to Weatherford, Dixie earned an MBA and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from SWOSU. She worked for many years in various roles in Training and Human Resources for 3M Company, Imation, and Ferrania, retiring in March 2002.
Music was her delight, her pastime and a major form of her worship. Dixie was a pianist and organist for over 50 years, beginning in her church community at the age of 12 and extending through 20+ years of playing at St. Eugene's. For years, she selflessly gave of her time to play at various area nursing homes and the Hinton Prison. Faith and service were key components of her life. She was an Oblate of St. Gregory's Abby in Shawnee, mentored young couples in the church Marriage Preparation Program and mastered a 5-year course in Spiritual Direction provided by the Sisters of St. Benedict at Piedmont, OK. She was an auxiliary member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and served on the local Catholic Charities Board. She worshiped God with her music, hours of meditation in her prayer room, and in the yard under a bower of Trumpet flowers. She was truly happiest when she was serving God by serving others, and never failed to bring a smile to everyone's face.
Dixie was an incredibly loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Vince were enamored of one another their entire time together. They took great delight in their marriage throughout multiple countries, states, high points and troubling times. Together, they modeled a beautiful relationship, and were a beacon for their children and many others. Dixie was always there for support, counsel, shared laughter, musical revelries, compassion, and above all else, complete and unconditional love. She will be greatly missed, but the example she set and the lessons she passed on will continue to thrive.
Dixie is survived by her son Edward and Catherine Hogan of Minneapolis and their children, Caroline, Alexandra, Margaret and Sarah; daughter Catherine and Todd DeVaughan of Weatherford and their children, Jackson, Kaleb, Nathan, and Emily; daughter Julia and Ford Thompson of Austin and their children, Charlotte, Annabelle and Ford Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mittie, and brothers Ralph and Ray.
