Obituary

Darrell "Dick" Richard Powell, 76, passed away on December 18, 2025, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, after spending his final days in Hydro, Oklahoma.

Dick was born on April 20, 1949, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Darrell Powell and Mary Janet Gateley. Though born to them, he was lovingly raised by his paternal grandparents, Elward and Verda Powell, who played a significant role in shaping the man he became.

Dick resided for many years in Oklahoma City but carried with him a love for people that made anywhere feel like home. More than anything else, Dick loved his friends and family. He never met a stranger and had a rare gift for making friends wherever he went. Whether with lifelong companions or someone he had just met.

He cherished time spent with family and friends and took every opportunity to be surrounded by those he loved. Dick found joy in the simple pleasures of life—sitting outside soaking up the sunshine, enjoying a good conversation, and watching ballgames on television. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved cheering on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Dick was a proud father to five daughters and one son. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Julie Powell.

He is survived by his son, McKenzie Powell and wife Presley Powell; his daughters, Tiffany Murray and husband Jordan Murray, Ashley Williams and husband Justin Williams, and Courtney Graybill and husband Trey Graybill; and his beloved grandchildren—15 in total—each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

Dick will be remembered for his warm heart, his friendly spirit, and his genuine love for others. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his kindness and the memories he created will live on forever.

Services for Dick will be held at a later date.
