Derek James Nelson was born September 11, 1960, in Los Angeles, California to James Robert and Barbara Sue (Jones) Nelson and passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022, at his home in Weatherford having reached the age of 61 years, 7 months, 6 days.

Derek was raised and attended school in Anaheim, California, graduating from Anaheim High School in 1978.   He raised his family in Weatherford.  Derek worked for County Builders for 7 years.  He enjoyed sports and played baseball.  Derek loved OU Sooners, music, fantasy football and spending time with his grandson, family and friends.  Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.

Derek is survived by his son, Travis Nelson and fiancé, Shelbi Mann of Chickasha; his daughter, Ashley Dickens and husband, Joshua of Weatherford; his sister, Shelley Hoerber and husband, Steve of Moreno Valley, California; and one grandson, Jeremiah.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
