Funeral: 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 19th, 2014"The Chapel" of Lockstone Funeral Home

Funeral services for Denzle Perry Minyard, 91 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at The Chapel at Lockstone Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home

Denzle was born on November 20, 1922 to Simon and Easter (Jones) Minyard in Foss, Oklahoma. He was raised in Colony, OK and attended Mound Valley Rural School south of Weatherford. He graduated from Weatherford High School with the Class of 1940 and went on to attend Southwestern State College and graduated with a B.S. in Education in 1961. On January 29, 1945 he married Mildred Lee Bond in Pascagoula, Mississipi. During his career in education he taught science in Denver Co, Mangum OK, and Thomas OK until his retirement in 1975. During retirement he owned and managed the Ponderosa Apartments, Cross Timbers trailer park, and other property. He enjoyed touring and recording albums with the Western Express Band and achieved a gold record. He also enjoyed entertaining at Denzles Music Barn and traveling the state of Oklahoma where he competed and won many fiddle competitions.

Denzle was baptized in 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Weatherford where he was a member and a Sunday School teacher with his wife. He was generous and charitable with his time and talent. He donated many items to the Heartland Museum, he was instrumental in building a church for the Weatherford community, active in the Weatherford Historical Society, a member of the Rotary Club, and performed with the SWOSU Orchestra. Teaching was one of his great passions and he was well loved by his students.

Denzle is survived by one daughter, Nova McDaugale, and her husband Joe, of Weatherford, OK; one sister, Nova June Schafer of Weatherford, OK; three grandchildren Torrie Jackson of Thomas OK, Cammy McDaugale of Weatherford OK, and Summer Berendsen of Weatherford OK; and five great-grandchildren Brittany, Bryce, and Brant Jackson of Thomas OK and Brooklyn and Canaan Read of Weatherford OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother James, and granddaughter Cindy Scales.
