Funeral services for David Rutledge Dickey, 80 year-old Edmond, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015, 1:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford, Oklahoma.
David was born December 16, 1934, in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Joseph Oatman and Neoma (Ruddell) Dickey and passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. David was raised and attended school in the Weatherford area and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1952. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M, currently Oklahoma State University, in 1956. While there, he was a member and President of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Cadet Commander of the Air Force ROTC. David enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1957 to 1959. On January 26, 1958, he married Norvelle Wycoff in Weatherford and made their home in Wilmington, Ohio. After his military service they returned to Oklahoma City. David received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 1963. While in law school, he was editor of the University of Oklahoma Law Review and was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif. He worked for Monnet & Hayes Law Firm and later went to work for Reserve National Insurance Company for over 25 years. He served as President of the Westside Lions Club, Director of Reserve National Insurance Company, and Director for the First National Bank in Thomas, Oklahoma, Southwest National Bank in Weatherford and Custer City, Oklahoma. After a successful career, he retired and returned to ranching which was his family roots and passion. David enjoyed reading, golfing, snow skiing, going to the lake, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was an amazing husband, father, and Papa. Memorials may be made to Life Share of Oklahoma or the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford.
David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norvelle Dickey of their home in Edmond, Oklahoma; two sons, Brian Dickey and wife, Cindy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jeff Dickey and wife, Jennifer of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one daughter, Ranee Bugh and husband, Stan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Lauren, Michelle, Jeff, Stephen, Amelia, Ashton, Caroline, Cole and Quinn; one brother, Jack Dickey and wife, Katherine of Weatherford, Oklahoma; and one sister, Betty Lamirand of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his son, Bret Dickey; his parents; and three brothers, J.O. Jr., Donald, and Glenn.
